Depth and Creation
The Fukasaku Farming Method
Fukasaku Farm is a family business, and in Japanese, the kanji characters in the name “Fukasaku” (深作) mean “depth” and “creation.” The Fukasaku farming method combines traditional natural farming and organic cultivation, utilizing beneficial bacteria in the soil. We have been dedicated to this method since 1990, and we place great importance on soil cultivation. Vegetables obtain plenty of nutrients from the soil when they grow, and humans can gain nutrition by consuming those vegetables, enabling us to live a healthy life. In the natural world, numerous microorganisms coexist with animals and plants, living active, energetic lives. It is said that the human intestines contain over 100 types of bacteria, with a total weight of approximately three kilograms. Furthermore, between 200,000 and 300,000 microorganisms are thought to inhabit every square centimeter of our skin, microorganisms that are essential for our health.
In the intestines, beneficial bacteria such as the lactobacilli and bifidobacteria found in yogurt work effectively, creating a healthy gut environment and improving overall well-being. The same phenomenon occurs in the soil. By utilizing a combination of over 80 beneficial microorganisms that naturally exist in the environment and incorporating beneficial bacteria and natural organic matter such as compost, here at Fukasaku Farm, we create soft, well-aggregated, healthy soil. This provides an ideal environment for cultivation, where plants can grow with robust and stress-free roots, high nutritional value, vitality, safety, and security. This farming method revives the inherent power of the soil and is environmentally friendly both for farmers and consumers. Moreover, it allows the true flavors of the crops to be fully brought out.

For four decades we have emphasized soil preparation
to produce the highest quality strawberries
Strawberries
How about giving strawberries as a souvenir or gift to celebrate special occasions? Ibaraki Prefecture has rich agricultural land where the northern and southern cultivation limits of various fruit and vegetables intersect, and Hokota is ranked second in Japan for strawberry production. Consuming just five or six strawberries can provide the daily recommended intake of vitamin C for adults, which makes them an outstandingly healthy fruit. Our strawberries are delicious and suitable for people of all ages, from children to senior citizens.

Melons
From old-fashioned to rare and elusive varieties,
melon selection varies depending on the harvesting season.
The city of Hokota is known as Japan’s leading melon-producing region. For special occasions like ochugen (mid-year gift-giving) or as a gift for someone important, how about choosing a carefully cultivated melon from this renowned region? Hokota benefits from its close proximity to the sea, combining ample sunlight with excellent drainage on its flat terrain. The temperature difference between the seasons enhances the sweetness of Hokota melons, making it an ideal location for their cultivation. Fukasaku Farm is a family business, and for more than 100 years across six generations, we have honed our expertise and dedicated ourselves to soil cultivation, which has resulted in melons of exceptional quality and taste.
